The Avett Brothers are classified as Folk Rock, but they have also been described as a combination of country, ragtime, pop, bluegrass, folk, indie rock, rock and roll, and honky-tonk. According to San Francisco Chronicle, they were described as having "heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones."
This box set contains their four most recent albums. Because each album has a distinct and unique sound, I created an aesthetic that would work with each record. Although each album ranges in style, they have a folk-like sound that is visualized through the hand lettering. The worn texture used throughout the design references the bands rustic roots. The droplet element inspires a feeling of energy, and is hand drawn. The ornaments throughout the book are a combination of the droplet shapes and the swashes found in the lettering.
